August 2014 – Books 4 Kids Program Underway!
SchoolBOX is proud to announce the delivery of three ‘Books 4 Kids’ mini-libraries to schools in Masaya. The Books 4 Kids Program was kicked off in style this year at the tail end of July, with 16 teachers from 3 schools receiving the training. The teachers were trained on numerous topics, including book organization, using silent reading as a tool, and reading creatively to children.
All of the teachers were so happy to receive the training, and were surprised by the quality and variety of books that they received. Schools received a variety of books including reference books, story books, and text books. The Jardines de Apoyo, Oscar Fuentes, and Sol de la Libertad Schools all received mini-libraries with over 400 students benefiting.
In Nicaragua, school materials are severely lacking. Books provide the necessary materials for teachers to teach creatively, and help children to think creatively and critically. SchoolBOX plans to deliver 3 more mini libraries in August, and 4 in September, along with 2 teacher training sessions.
A big thanks to our amazing supporters for supporting the Books 4 Kids program this year.
