June 2014 – 5km Fun Run a Huge Success!
On Saturday, June 7th, CTV Amazing Person and SchoolBOX champion, Dina Bell Laroche led another fantastic event. In memory of her sister, Tracy Nolan (nee Bell), people gathered to run, walk and bike 5 km in support of SchoolBOX. Thanks to the generosity of all who participated, $3010 was raised for Tracy’s Hope Legacy School.
Dina and a group of her friends helped organize the run and amazing raffle. ‘Muchas Gracias’ go to fellow organizers Christine Carson, Marie-Flor Donnelly and Joe Rios. A big thanks also goes to the West Ottawa Soccer Club and TrueSport for their support and participation in the event. A number of local businesses got involved by donating raffle items too. Thanks to Wild Wing, D’Arcy McGee’s, Heavenly Day Spa, Home Hardware, Hurley’s Kanata, The Works Kanata, Mojo’s, Lululemon, Texture Hair Boutique, Shoppers Drug Mart and Gabriel’s Pizza!
Dina travelled to Nicaragua to help build a school in a rural community in 2013. The vibrance of the children, community and SchoolBOX resonated with Dina and reminded her of her loving and caring sister. This inspired Dina to honour her sister’s memory with Tracy’s Hope Legacy. Last year, in Tracy’s memory, Dina’s friends, family and community fundraised for a library at the school that Dina helped build. This year they are proud and excited to be fundraising to build Tracy’s Hope Legacy School.
