March 2015 – Construction Begins at the Brett #4 School
Construction began at the Brett #4 School in the Bella Cruz Community of Ciudad Sandino the week of March 23, 2015. The students had been taking classes in less than ideal conditions for the past year, after several earthquakes destroyed six classrooms in April of 2014. Children were forced to study outside or under the shade of trees until the community built 6 makeshift and temporary classrooms out of metal and wood. Over 500 students were displaced over a morning and afternoon shift.
The municipality of Ciudad Sandino was gracious enough to help finance and provide volunteers to clear and level the land before construction commenced. Students and community volunteers are also set to help in the construction efforts over the next few months.
This is the fourth Brett Bentley Crawford School in Nicaragua. The first three schools have helped empower over 900 students to get a basic education on an annual basis.
Many thanks to the Brett Bentley Crawford Foundation for their continued support!
