November 2014 – Ground Broken at the Los Salgados School

In mid November, ground was broken at the Los Salgados School in Chinendega, Nicaragua. The entire SchoolBOX team was on hand for the laying of the ceremonial first bricks.  SchoolBOX champions Ron Arsenault and Joan Wyatt had the pleasure of travelling all the way from Canada to be a part of the ceremony. They were moved by the community’s welcome and touched by their commitment to education.

The Los Salgados community is currently learning in a structure built by the parents in the community. It is made out of plywood and other materials that they found in the community. The school is well maintained, but it does not protect the children from the heavy storms during rainy season.

The parents and teachers in the community are working hard at helping the SchoolBOX team with construction and hope to complete the school by the end of the year.

Thanks to Ron Aresenault, Joan Wyatt and the CTV Amazing People Gala for supporting the construction of these two classrooms!
