October 2016 – SchoolBOX Canada raises funds for library in Indigenous community
SchoolBOX Canada, our newest program, aims to empower communities lacking in educational resources on our own Canadian soil.
The jumping off point for this new program is our Indigenous Youth Empowering Students program, which brings Indigenous youth to Nicaragua to take part in a school build, share their culture and customs with the children in Nicaragua, and be empowered as leaders in their own home communities.
Terri Meekis, a IYES-alumni and single mother of three, participated in a school-build in 2012 in Nicaragua but shockingly does not even have an elementary school or library in her home community of Waubuskang 21 Reserve in Treaty 3 Territory, in Northern Ontario.
SchoolBOX invites you to help support Terri’s dream to equip schools in Treaty 3 Territory with libraries for Indigenous children.
