September 2016 – Happy 10th Birthday SchoolBOX!
SchoolBOX began when our founder Tom Affleck gave two little girls a notebook and pencil. Their father told him that because of these new school supplies, his daughters would be able to attend school that year.
On September 1st, 2006, SchoolBOX registered as an organization and officially began its mission of educational empowerment for the children of Nicaragua.
It’s amazing to think that when we started building our first school in 2008, only 51% of kids made it to grade five in Nicaragua. Eight years later, there is still huge need, but now over 56% of kids are finishing grade six and receiving their primary diploma.
Since our inception, SchoolBOX has given out 476,631 notebooks, built 80 classrooms and 46 washrooms, constructed 38 Mini Libraries and five playing fields.
We are grateful to play a small part in ‘making education possible’ for kids in this impoverished, yet beautiful country. Thank you for your continued support through these years.
