February 2014 – Volunteers hit the bricks in Masaya
Our volunteer program for 2014 is off to an incredible start! In February, the Jardines de Apoyo community welcomed Richard and Lori Crawford and another 11 volunteers from the Ottawa area into their community. These amazing volunteers were able to help lay the first bricks, dig the foundation, build rebar columns and pour concrete.
Although construction has just begun, the children, teachers and community members were very enthusiastic and loved the opportunity to work alongside our dedicated volunteers. When asked about the experience, one February volunteers said, “Hearing the stories of the people who formed SchoolBOX and meeting the children, families and community of Jardines de Apoyo was a most humbling experience. I was thrilled to see so many students taking part in the build, working alongside the experienced workers and volunteers.” To learn more about our volunteer program visit schoolbox.ca/volunteer or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
