March 2014 – St. Thomas Jumpin’ Spirits in Nicaragua
In early March, thirteen volunteers from St Thomas Anglican Church in Stittsville arrived in Nicaragua. After over a year of planning and thousands of dollars fundraised for their trip costs, this group finally began to see the fruits of their efforts. This wonderful group of six youth and seven adults had a fantastic time both working on the build and playing with kids.
Over the course of 10 days the group made lasting friendships with members of the Jardines de Apoyo community as they worked and played alongside them. Asked about what impacted them most, one youth said, “The hospitality and the love of the people and the realization of how I take my education for granted.” Another volunteer commented that “The dirt will come off in a few days. My experience here in Nicaragua will never come off.”
