July 2017 – Little Bricks volunteers bring love & laughter to Flor de Sacuanjoche
Laughter is in the air at Flor de Sacuanjoche School this week, as volunteers from the Little Bricks group help to build a new classroom and have tons of fun playing with kids while they are at it! The Little Bricks group consists of Jennifer, Irelynd and Elizabeth Tackabury, Laura, Travis and Owen Bond, and Claudette Rooyakkers. All seven volunteers were instrumental in fundraising to make this classroom a reality, running bake sales, freezie sales, raffle contests, and collecting online donations before their trip.
The Bond family are a big fan of rainbow looms, which they are using to teach the children in Nicaragua how to weave their own colourful bracelets and necklaces. It is the Tackabury’s second SchoolBOX trip, and our team in Nicaragua was overjoyed to see their enthusiastic smiles once again. Claudette has become an instant friend to the children at Flor de Sacuanjoche, entertaining them with her juggling skills and pushing them around the build site in the wheel barrow!
Our volunteers are invaluable in instilling the importance and love of education in the children of our partner schools. By being positive and fun role models, they are making an impact far beyond the ten days they spend with us in Nicaragua. They are making memories and leaving a legacy of educational empowerment!
