August 2017 – Laura Bond’s Fundraiser at Quitters Coffee
Quitters Coffee in Stittsville was buzzing on August 9th, as SchoolBOX volunteer Laura Bond held a fabulous fundraiser and shared photos and stories from her time in Nicaragua in July. Laura and her two boys Owen and Travis traveled to Nicaragua with the Little Bricks volunteer group, and fell in love with the people and country during their time there. Laura, an elementary school teacher at Westwind Public School, is using the money she earns from her part-time skin care business Rodan + Fields to help her do good in Nicaragua by supporting SchoolBOX’s mission to “Make Education Possible”.
Upon returning from Nicaragua, Laura joined forces with another Stittsville local Matt Smart who is raising funds to build a new classroom in Nicaragua next summer. The pair will hold fundraisers over the next year to raise the remaining funds needed for this project that will enable deserving children to have a safe and effective place to study. Laura plans to return to Nicaragua with a group of family and friends in summer 2018 to build the “Matt’s Dream” classroom.
John Curry of the Stittsville News attended the event, and wrote a fabulous article that made the front page news!
Way to go Laura, and we look forward to seeing all the good that you do this year for the kids in Nicaragua!
