October 2017 – Inauguration of Flor de Sacuanjoche
Excited children and community members, government officials, and our SchoolBOX team gathered this weekend for the grand opening of our 90th classroom in Nicaragua, at Flor de Sacuanjoche School. This new classroom provides a safe and secure location for the students of Flor de Sacuanjoche to receive their education. Before this new classroom was constructed, the school was severely overcrowded forcing some students to learn inside a crumbling and structurally unsound classroom, and other to learn in an open-air makeshift metal and wood shanty.
When the local government learned that SchoolBOX would build a new classroom for these kids, they committed to constructing a second new classroom as this school which will be much needed as the student population continues to grow. It is through our strong partnership with the Ministry of Education and the municipal governments in Nicaragua that we are able to encourage and lobby them to build the additional classroom. By shining a spotlight of love and compassion on these often “forgotten” communities and children, we are able to create change together. Check out coverage of the inauguration on Nicaraguan TV Chanel 3.
SchoolBOX would like to thank the members of the Little Bricks volunteer team who spent many hours fundraising for this classroom, and who also came to Nicaragua to help build it. We would also like to thank the Havergal and Indigenous Youth volunteer teams who volunteered their time to make this classroom build happen.
It takes a global village to ‘Make Education Possible’!
