February 2018 – Visiting Brett’s Schools in Nicaragua
SchoolBOX has been working in partnership with the BBC Foundation and the Crawford family to build schools across Nicaragua in honour of their beloved daughter and sister, Brett Bentley Crawford. Brett was a bright light to many in her life, and her legacy lives on in the seven schools that bear her name in Nicaragua!
Kate, Brett’s sister, came to Nicaragua at the end of February to visit the Brett Schools, and meet the children that are being impacted by access to quality education. She received a warm welcome by teachers, parents, students, and community members everywhere she went, as people were eager to thank her for the work she and her family are doing to empower thousands of children each year.
SchoolBOX Founder Tom Affleck, Nicaraguan Director Ronald Chavarria, and Programs Manager Jazmin Lopez also joined Kate on her tour of the Brett Schools, making stops at the first Brett School in Managua, the fifth Brett School in Masaya, the sixth Brett School in Chinandega, and the seventh Brett School where we will begin construction in the spring of 2018.
