March 2018 – Algonquin CYC students host events for SchoolBOX
We are thrilled about our ongoing partnership with Algonquin College’s Child and Youth Care program. Algonquin CYC students have been tirelessly and cheerfully fundraising for SchoolBOX over the course of their winter semester, with the goal of building a mini-library in Nicaragua. With three classes participating in this community service learning challenge, we have been delighted by the fundraising events that students organized and hosted this month.
On March 14th, we attended a Breakfast for Dinner event, where CYC students cooked a pancake “breakfast” for a crowd of about 50 people and entertained us with the sounds of fiddle music and highland step dancing. It was a delicious and fun evening for all!
On March 20th, we gathered at Tailgators in Nepean for the Talent4Schools event, which showcased some amazing local singers, guitarists, and even a country/rock band. The silent auction had some great prizes, and lots of people came out to support SchoolBOX. We were so grateful!
On March 27th, students hosted a wonderful pool tournament in support of SchoolBOX, drawing a great crowd and expertly sharing our mission to education children in Nicaragua with all of the guests.
Thank you to all who are involved in this initiative. You are truly helping us ‘make education possible’ for deserving children in Nicaragua.
