December 2018 – Library & Classroom Inaugurated
December 14, 2018 was a great day for the community at the Antonia Garcia de Toruño School. SchoolBOX, along with community members, teachers, students and the Ministry of Education celebrated the inauguration of one classroom and one double library classroom at the school. The students could not wipe the smiles off of their faces when they streamed into the school for the first time.
We are grateful to Maureen Daag for funding one of the classrooms. She has been a longtime supporter of SchoolBOX, and decided to fund a classroom during her volunteer experience with SchoolBOX a few years ago. She returned to Canada and worked hard to donate all the funds earned from tutoring math towards her classroom. She is a great example of how passion and hard work can make miracles happen.
The second library classroom is twice the size of a normal classroom and provides amazing areas for preschool and primary aged children to read and study. The library contains bright and colourful murals and is an area where students can learn, imagine and grow. This library will be used by 230+ students at the school and hundreds of other students in 6 satellite schools in the region.
Thanks to our fantastic donors for making this dream a reality. This beautiful community will have access to a basic education for generations to come!
