July 2019 – Our Super Volunteers
This month, SchoolBOX had two volunteer groups travel to Nicaragua from Canada to work on the Heroes de Nandaime School. The El Porvenir community fell in love with both groups as they worked alongside parents to help build a 3-classroom school.
The first group arrived in early July and was made up of Indigenous leaders from around Canada. They had an amazing time on the build site and even had a cultural presentation day where they introduced their local customs, food, and dance to the students, and parents.
The second group arrived in late July, and was comprised of volunteers from the Kanata and Stittsville area. They worked hard during the week tying rebar, moving cement blocks and pouring cement into the structure of the school.
We are so thankful to these two wonderful volunteer groups for empowering the children of Nicaragua to get a basic education.
