April 2017 – Algonquin students raise almost $5000 for school supplies!
On April 4th, Algonquin Child and Youth Care students held a celebration event to mark the end of their semester-long community service learning project. During this project, the students were challenged to advocate and raise funds for SchoolBOX and two other community organizations in Ottawa, YouTurn and the Bethany Hope Project.
As a result of some amazing bake sales, a trivia night at Hooley’s Pub and a Craft Beer event at Whiprsnapr Brewery, the students raised a whopping $4,730 for SchoolBOX – an incredible gift! The money will be used to purchase school supply packages for the children in Nicaragua, and a portion will also go towards SchoolBOX Canada, our newest program aimed at equipping Indigenous communities with libraries.
Special thanks to Lorie Hadley, Professor of the CYC program, and each and every student involved in the project. We could not be more grateful to count Algonquin Child and Youth Care program as our partner in ‘Making Education Possible’ abroad and at home!
