The Need: The Jezreel School was located in the Northern Part of Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. The school was started in 2002 by Antonia Aventano. She saw that the impoverished community lacked a school, so she went door to see if any neighbourhood children were interested. The next day, countless children gathered under a tree sitting on rocks to receive their first lesson. Since the school was founded, it has moved 7 times from location to location within the neighbourhood. SchoolBOX found this school in 2007, and has been paying rent and a stipend for the teachers until the new school is completed.
The Finished Product: SchoolBOX completed the 9 classroom/6 washroom school in December 2012. Members of the Brett Bentley Crawford Foundation, and the C.H.A.N.C.E. Foundation helped put the finishing touches on the school, and attended the inauguration. Members of the media, Ministry of Education, representatives from city hall, members of the community, and the SchoolBOX team were also on hand with hundreds of students and teachers for the special occasion.
