December 2014 – Los Salgados School Construction Update
The community of Los Salgados in Telica, Nicaragua is gearing up for an amazing Christmas! Hope and happiness is beaming from the parents, teachers and students within this community as their new school is taking shape. SchoolBOX first visited this community in mid 2013 and learned that the parents of the community had put their resources together to construct a makeshift wooden structure for their children to learn in. Previously the children had been learning in a converted goat barn and were exposed to the elements and a myriad of distractions.
Construction on the 2-classroom Los Salgados School commenced in November of 2014 and our construction crew has been working hard to complete the school before the end of the year. They were treated by some amazing help from a 17 member volunteer group earlier in November along with the continued support of community members.
Our construction team and the community are putting the finishing touches on the school at the moment. Check out the updated photos below!
