January 2018 – A new classroom for La Sabana’s students
Monday, January 29th was a memorable day for the rural community at La Sabana School. The children, parents, and teachers all gathered excitedly to officially open the new classroom, funded by Acts of Grace Foundation and built by SchoolBOX. This was a true community effort, as local parents volunteered each and every day on the classroom build site to make sure that the classroom would be finished by the end of January. Thanks to their help, we achieved our goal, and the classroom is now ready for students to use in the new 2018 school year starting this February!
Members of the Ministry of Education and local government were on hand to make speeches at the inauguration, and some eager students helped us to cut the ribbon that opened the new classroom. The impact of this new classroom on the community will be huge, as students were previously learning in a crumbling structure made of wood, bricks and mud. The old classroom was overcrowded and structurally unsound. Yader Parajon, a teacher at La Sabana, shared his gratitude about the new classroom. Please watch his message in the video below.
