June 2017 – Canadian Ambassador to Nicaragua visits Brett School
June 21st, 2017 was a proud day for SchoolBOX as the Canadian Ambassador to Nicaragua paid a visit to the Brett Bentley Crawford School in La Primavera, Managua. Our Nicaraguan Director Ronald Chavarria and our SchoolBOX team was there to welcome Ambassador Michael Gort, who was very impressed by the facilities of the 9-classroom Brett School as well as the work that SchoolBOX is doing in Nicaragua to improve access to education for all girls and boys.
(Translation: “In the children I see the warmth and quality of the personal relationships that exist between Canadians and Nicaraguans, and I think that what has been done in this school through SchoolBOX, with the support of the Government of Nicaragua, shows the ties of friendship between the two communities. We hope to continue working in Nicaragua through SchoolBOX to provide support for the quality of education”.)
The Brett Bentley Crawford School began as little more than the dream of the teacher Antonia, who began teaching children under a tree more than a decade ago in one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Managua. Thanks to the generosity of the BBC Foundation, this school was completed in 2012 and now provides education and hope for a better future to over 500 children on a daily basis.
We thank Ambassador Gort for his visit, and trust that the friendships built between Canada and Nicaragua through SchoolBOX will remain strong.
