Today SchoolBOX is helping thousands of children in Nicaragua go to school. This is thanks to the passion and generosity of our international volunteers. Over 600 individuals from Canada, the USA, Europe and Australia from ages 8 to 73 have come to help ‘Make Education Possible’ in Nicaragua!
What is the SchoolBOX Volunteer Experience?
A 10-day group trip to Nicaragua to help construct a school or classroom. We organize private transportation, accommodations, food and clean water, in-country guides, translation, safety and orientation from start to finish.
For information about upcoming SchoolBOX Volunteer trips please contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org
- School building project and cross-cultural experience
- Private in-country transportation
- 9 nights shared accommodation at hotels
- Meals + purified water on the worksite
- Recreational excursions + cultural activities
- 24/7 bilingual guides, translation + first aid
Each volunteer must raise an additional $500 CAD that goes directly to SchoolBOX projects.
Work on a build site alongside SchoolBOX staff, teachers, students, parents and community volunteers in Nicaragua. Work varies from light to difficult based on your ability, but you could be digging foundations, mixing cement, painting classrooms or helping make wire columns.
Play with kids and encourage students to dream. Building relationships with the kids and community will be the most important work of all.
Learn about Nicaraguan history and culture, the importance of education to defeat poverty, and pick up some Spanish along the way!
Explore the beautiful country of Nicaragua. Activities may include a salsa dance class, visit to the market, beach, volcano or colonial city.

SchoolBOX is required by the Government of Nicaragua to register each volunteer’s passport prior to his or her volunteer trip, as well as the arrival and departure dates of the trip. This is standard policy for all charities, churches, and tour agencies hosting volunteers in Nicaragua.
Risk Assessment Policy:
SchoolBOX takes the safety and security of our international volunteers extremely seriously. Fourteen days prior to each and every volunteer trip to Nicaragua, SchoolBOX will perform a risk assessment to determine whether conditions in Nicaragua are safe and secure enough to host a group.
SchoolBOX will adhere to any Avoid Non-Essential Travel or Do Not Travel advisories from the Government of Canada.
Trip Cancellation Policy
In the unfortunate event of civil unrest, terrorism, natural disaster or force majeure, SchoolBOX reserves the right to cancel a volunteer trip up to fourteen days prior to departure in order to keep its volunteer’s safe. The $400 USD non-refundable deposit will not be applicable in situations where a volunteer’s safety would be put at risk by traveling to Nicaragua. In this case, the volunteer will be issued a full refund of trip fees within 10-days of the trip cancellation date.
